The Edmonds Arts Commission presents an exhibit of oil and mixed media paintings by Don DeLeva
at the Edmonds Library during the month of February.
DeLeva's art has always been about sharp objects and the metaphysical world and dreams have always been important to him. His Catholic up bringing led him to believe dreams were a way of communicating with the divine. He has strived for his art to act as a catalyst for provoking the metaphysical side of thinking in his viewers. Other inspirations are sharp objects -- nails, saw blades, glass shards, teeth, knives, bullets, and scissors. The diagonal lines in his work are metaphors for sharp objects almost like blades. His paintings are about the precision and perfection of "the edge" even if it was unintentional, as in a shard of glass. This series of work is based on the forces of construction and destruction inspired by the war in Iraq, Sept. 11, the downtown Seattle building boom and the building of the Tacoma Narrows Bridge.
The exhibit may be viewed during library hours: 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. The library is located at 650 Main Street in Edmonds. For more information call 425-771-0228.

Espresso Roma adds to the list of coffee shops that let artists use their walls at no charge.Nick Ciancibelli's paintings and comic book-influenced illustrations are on display at the Capitol Hill location, while Donald Peter DeLeva's oil on wood can be seen at the University District Roma. DeLeva says his work is "mainly based off hallucination and dreams ... and you don't need to be on drugs to see hallucinations." If you just can't get enough of this psychedelic work, DeLeva's paintings can also be enjoyed this December at Cafe Paradiso." http://archives.thedaily.washington.edu/1996/101096/coffee101096.html
